Best Lift Kit for a 1st Gen Toyota Tacoma (1995–2004)

Short answer: for the lowest verified price in this comparison, the Tuff Country 3-in kit at $303.91 is the cheapest, and it is also the tallest fixed lift here at 3 in front and rear. For the tallest adjustable setup, the ToyTec Aluma Series Boss system adjusts from 2 to 3 in. For the owner-proven combination, the Bilstein 5100 plus OME coils runs up to 2.5 in in front. This page covers the 1995–2004 first-generation Tacoma only — not the 2005–2015 second generation or the 2016–2023 third generation, which have their own lift kits. The five kits below split into two height groups (about 2–2.5 in, or a fixed 3 in) and three price tiers, and the right one depends on your budget, your drivetrain, and whether your truck is a 4WD, PreRunner, or 2WD.

Prices below are as listed in the guide's Lift Kits tab (tab dated Oct 28, 2026), from the retailers named on each card. They are not live prices: check the retailer link for the current price before ordering. Three of the seven rows in the tab carry no verified price — the guide says the price was unverified at build time — and those are stated as such below. Every kit, part number, lift height, and fitment note on this page comes from the Cerch Garage 1st Gen Tacoma guide's Lift Kits tab. Nothing here is guessed.

Two companion parts from the same tab

The Lift Kits tab carries two more rows that are not full kits. The Wheeler's 3-leaf progressive add-a-leaf is a rear-only part at about 2 in rear (owner-reported): a progressive 3-leaf pack where you keep the stock overload spring, with rear shocks retained or replaced per condition, and its price was unverified at build time. Owner-reported on a 1997 4x4 with OME 880 coils, it gave just under 2 in front and about 2 in rear with about 1 in of rake. Watch for driveshaft vibration around 25 mph after lifting. The other row is the front differential drop, a geometry-correction companion: ToyTec's 1-in front diff drop, about $20 owner-reported (verify before ordering), which owners report kills the braking and slowdown vibration after a 5100 + add-a-leaf lift and call cheap insurance for CV angles; it takes about 15 minutes to install.

Which one for you

If cost comes first: the Tuff Country kit at $303.91 is the lowest verified price here, and it is also the only fixed 3-in kit — but read the fine print: the factory struts are retained in front and extended rear shocks are REQUIRED, so the $303.91 is not the whole job. The Rough Country N3 pair at $369.95 is the next tier, but it is a front pair only, so budget a rear lift separately for a level stance.

If you want a fixed 3 in lift: the Tuff Country kit is the only full fixed-height kit in this set, at 3 in front and rear for 1995–2004 4WD and PreRunner trucks, fitting up to 32-in tires. The ToyTec Boss system also reaches 3 in, but it is adjustable (2–3 in) and includes a front diff drop kit.

If you want adjustable height with coilovers: the ToyTec Aluma Series Boss system is the coilover option, at 2–3 in with 700-lb springs, fully rebuildable — but its price was unverified at build time, so check the listing before ordering. The owner-proven alternative is the Bilstein 5100 + OME coil combination: up to 2.5 in at the top 5100 setting, with OME 880 coils for stock weight and 881 coils with front weight (bumper or winch), and the price varies because the parts are sold separately.

If fitment decides it for you: check your truck before anything else. The ToyTec Boss and the OME kit are both listed for 1998–2004 only, so a 1995–1997 truck cannot use them. The Rough Country N3 pair fits the full 1995–2004 range in 2WD and 4WD, and the Tuff Country kit fits 1995–2004 4WD and PreRunner. The guide's tire fitment note is general, not kit-specific: a leveling kit fits 30–32 in tires, a 3–4 in lift fits 32–33 in, and a 5–6 in lift fits 33–35 in — verify against your truck's actual clearance.

Fitment and install notes

What this page does not cover: tire size recommendations per kit, ride-quality comparisons, install times, and difficulty ratings. The Tacoma sheet does not state those, so they are left out rather than guessed. If a kit's listing contradicts anything here, the listing and your truck's actual configuration win.
